Guidelines:

Scholars early in their careers are encouraged to submit papers on any aspect of communal societies, past or present, for consideration for the Starting Scholar Award.  The Donald Durnbaugh Starting Scholar Award is designed to encourage and recognize new authors in the field of communal studies.  Undergraduate and graduate students in any discipline are eligible to submit papers.  Candidates need not have any organizational affiliation or academic connections; each paper will be judged on its own merit and its suitability for publication.  Award recipients will receive a cash award and publication in the journal Communal Societies.  The award will be presented at the annual meeting of the Communal Studies Association.

To submit a paper, send an electronic copy no later than MAY 1 to Kathleen Fernandez, kathyfernandez@neo.rr.com

Deadline: May 1.  Recipients will be announced at the annual fall conference and will receive a plaque honoring their accomplishments.

For further information about the Outstanding Contribution Award, or to submit nomination materials, please contact the above committee chairs or association vice president, Heather VanWormer: theheather@mac.com
